le foyer (noun) : the hearth / a welcoming space, a home, where family and friends meet, connect and share their music and their stories

Our Vision

Le Foyer des Artistes brings together an international ensemble of musicians with a home at St Columb's Hall in Derry. Founded by Darren Hargan, we are a non-profit organisation dedicated to sharing extraordinary music — and to the people who make and love it.

Our annual season at St Columb's Hall draws on a wide range of traditions, from period instrument performance to contemporary ensemble work. Alongside, we run projects that champion the next generation: the Young Singers Project, the Piano Concert Award, and partnerships with artists, local schools and institutions across Ireland, the UK, Europe, Asia and the Americas.

From 2026 our new Hidden Gems series will be dedicated to unearthing lost landmark pieces - beginning with Irish composer Ina Boyle’s opera Maudlin of Paplewick.

We believe that music is most powerful when it is genuinely shared — between world-class performers and emerging artists, between the ensemble and its audience, between Derry and the wider world. That belief is at the heart of everything we do.
